Tropical roofing: materials that resist cyclones

A poorly fixed roof is one of the first things damaged after a cyclone in Madagascar. Good-thickness galvanised sheets, anti-uplift fixings and a steep enough pitch to drain water quickly considerably reduce the risks. Roof frames also need proper bracing, a point often overlooked on fast builds. Investing in certified roofing materials costs more to install but avoids far more expensive emergency repairs after every rainy season.
